When is the best time to look for cell phone plans?

If you are going to give a cell phone as a gift, you should be able to find some of the best cell phone plans by shopping during the Christmas season. This benefit of finding great deals during the holidays was strictly an accident. We needed a new cell phone for business and when we started looking it was a real eye opener. When we compared the prices and features from some of our previous cell phone plans, there was just no comparison. These were just that much better. It was a better plan and it cost less.

The plan we got covers everything. It has long distance, out of state, no roaming charges. If you get a plan like this you can have what seems like unlimited minutes both on and off peak. The rate should not change for the life of the contract, so you won't have to worry about any cost increases. Of course you can get a plan that is not that extensive. You may not need the coast to coast features. You may only want a certain region of the country or maybe even just your home state. All of these will have a lower cost.

The plans with a thousand minutes or more of time and ones that offer large blocks of peak time will really drive the cost up, so many of the carriers will have plans that will try to balance this high cost by offering less peak time and a range of the number of minutes you will get with various plans to try to keep the cost down.

Another item for you to consider if your cell phone plans offer person-to-person calls. A circle of friends, this is for people you call frequently. This type of plan allows you to list a certain number of people that you can call and there will be no charge, it won't use up your minutes. Here you might want your spouse and children. That way the children can check in as often as needed without using up all of your minutes. This is something you can consider on what is know as the family plan. Here you have a bulk number of minutes and each person in the family has a phone. The time is split between everyone who uses the phone. You may only use a small amount of time each month, but you children may use a ton of minutes talking to friends.

As I said earlier, not only are the holidays a good time to look for new cell phone plans, but it may be a great time to look for an upgrade to your present cell phone plan. Your carrier may be willing to make you a fantastic deal just for the Christmas season.
